Fakenham Commission

I was commissioned to design a piece of Public Sculpture for the Town of Fakenham in Norfolk. The Sculpture was funded by Tesco's and was erected for placement in the entrance to the Tesco store on Oak Street in January 2009. Oak Street is a key entrance to Fakenham Town Centre within the Fakenham Conservation Area.

The 3mx4m sculpture is made from 4 sheets of steel, worked to create the three dimensional negative silhouette of an oak tree, through which the public can walk and with which children can interact.

My design was cut by water jet cutter out of the 4 steel sheets 2m x 3m which make up the sculpture. Foundation plates were then attached and sent off to be galvanised. The Oak Tree had considerable concrete foundations under the York stone paving.
